In Canada, provincial emergency medical responder (EMR) and paramedic regulators have the legislated authority to grant registration, licensure, or certification to individuals to practise as EMRs and paramedics.

Regulation and registration, licensing, and certification requirements differ in each provincial jurisdiction.

EMRs and paramedics in Canada are regulated using two different models: self-regulated or government regulated. In Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, EMRs and paramedics are self-regulated, while those in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador are government regulated. EMRs in the territories are not yet regulated.
